Located in the Southeastern Corner of Georgia, one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777. It is the 11th largest county in the state of Georgia by area. Camden County encompasses the communities of Kingsland (https://visitkingsland.com/ ), Saint Marys (https://visitstmarys.com/ ) , Woodbine (http://woodbinegeorgia.net/ ), White Oak, Waverly and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay. Camden County is located on the GA/FL line, just north of Jacksonville, Florida. That, coupled with easy access to I-95, gives these small-town communities big town opportunities!

 

Camden County offers military personal a rural place to live with close access to bigger cities. Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, which first opened in 1954 as an Army Base and in 1975, when the submarines were withdrawn from Rota Spain, Navy personnel started at the area for a Submarine Base. In 1978 it was officially transferred from Army to Navy, and Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay was established. On July 2,1979, the submarine tender Simon Lake arrived and 4 days later the USS James Monroe. In January 1989 the first trident submarines arrived at Kings Bay, in 2003 several of the Trident Class Submarines were relocated to allow for the new SSGN’S. The Naval Sub Base was proud to recommission the USS Georgia here at Kings Bay in March of 2008.  The base is home to Submarine Group 10, Submarine Squadrons 16 & 20, Trident Training Facility, Trident Refit Facility, Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic, and other support providing commands.

 Many towns, municipalities, and cities across the country have been designated as official Coast Guard cities. However, Camden County is the first all-encompassing Coast Guard community.

The school(http://www.camden.k12.ga.us/)  system serves the diverse needs of over 9,000 students between nine elementary schools, two middle schools and one comprehensive high school with a 9th Grade Center. SchoolDigger.com, a website that uses school data to rank schools nationwide, recently released their 2020-2021 rankings and Camden County Schools earned 6th place ranking for traditional school districts in Georgia. The rankings were based on academic performance for the past school year. Camden County High School is the single public high school in Camden County, offering a comprehensive curriculum (9–12) with a variety of classes for both College Preparatory and Career Technology Preparatory. The high school campus is one of the largest in the state of Georgia.

Camden’s small-town appeal is what draws many to the area and what convinces some of them to stay. The lower cost of living, quality public schools and proximity to metro areas help make our community unique. There are also active programs for all sorts of recreational pursuits- youth or adult team sports, boating and water sports, community theatre, state and national parks, bicycle and walking trails, golfing, pickle ball, swimming, soccer, street festivals and more.

The area’s mild climate, scenic views, high quality school system and small town atmosphere despite its commercial growth make Camden County an exceptional place to raise a family!
